Default Do you know this man?

PALM DESERT, Calif. — Two men forced entry into a 9-year-old boy's home, assaulted his father and took off with the child early Wednesday morning, California authorities said.

Although she is not being called a suspect, Palm Desert police and other officials said during a press conference Wednesday afternoon that they want to talk to Rose, who was separated from the boy’s father, Michael, who had custody of Nicholas.

"We just want to talk to her to get us some help … in our investigation," Palm Desert police Chief Patrick McManus said Wednesday.

McManus said Nicholas’ father told authorities that there were some "personal problems" between him and his estranged wife. Farber even told police that he thought the vehicle Nicholas was taken away in looked like Rose’s vehicle. But authorities said they confirmed Rose’s vehicle was still at her home in Colorado.

"We would like to tell the people who took the child that with the FBI, highway patrol … and other allied agencies, we will find you," said McManus. "We would like these gentlemen to drop the child off at a safe location and get the child back to his father."

One suspect is described as 5’8", about 175 pounds and in his early 30s, with dark hair, a goatee and mustache, if medium build, and was seen wearing a dark sweatsuit and carrying a dark colored bag. The other man is dark Hispanic or black, about 6’3", 250 pounds and wearing dark sweatpants.

Nicholas is described as a white male, about four-feet five-inches tall and about 55 pounds. He has brown hair with blonde highlights and was wearing Fruit of the Loom briefs underwear.

Kondo said the case did not yet merit an Amber Alert because authorities did not have specific information such as the vehicle's license number.

"I would like to emphasize that our main focus here is to get the child back," McManus said.

Default California boy, 9, abducted from home

    Custody or debt suspected motive

    August 28, 2002 Posted: 7:12 PM EDT (2312 GMT)

PALM DESERT, California (CNN) -- The kidnapping of a 9-year-old boy from his Southern California home Wednesday probably was not a random act and may have involved a custody dispute or unpaid debt, authorities said.

The parents of the boy, Nicholas Michael Farber, have been fighting over his custody in an ongoing court case, Capt. Patrick McManus of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department told reporters. The father, Michael Farber, 47, currently has custody.

"We do know there are some personal problems between him [father] and the boy's mother. There was a bad relationship," McManus said.

The child's mother, Debra Rose, 38, lives in Colorado Springs, Colorado. FBI agents have gone to her house there but have been unable to locate her.

Debra Rose has been married at least three times. One of her ex-husbands, Stan Rose, said he has also been in a custody dispute with her and has sought restraining orders against her. He said he has taken precautions to safeguard his children, ages 5 and 6.

"Drop the child off at a safe location and let us get the child back to his father," McManus urged the abductors. "The important thing is that we would like to have the child back."

    Post Unbelievable

This is so hard to believe that a mother could pay to have her son kidnapped at gunpoint to be with her. If she is responsible, she should loose all rights to see him again. That is too terrifying for a 9-year-old to experience.

    Default Yeah

From the information given, it makes me wonder...she is in the middle of two custody battles. Why do you suppose each court has given rights to the fathers and not to her. My assessment is that the courts have recognized something in her life that is unhealthy for these children.

I hope they can find Nicholas soon. If the abductor is the mother or a stranger or any other aquaintance, either way I have to doubt that he is in good hands.

Default Mother was arrested for violating a restraining order.

    http://www.thedenverchannel.com/den/...28-140802.html
    {snip}
At an afternoon news conference on Wednesday, Riverside Sheriff-elect Bob Doyle announced that police are searching for a gray GMC, Colorado temporary license plates, with plate number: H12197. He urged anyone who may have seen that vehicle to call 911 immediately. The vehicle might also be in Colorado, he said.

    [snip]

Rose was arrested by Colorado Springs police on Aug. 15 for violating a temporary restraining order, said Lt. Melissa Hartman of the El Paso County sheriff's office.

According to records released by the 4th Judicial District Court in Colorado Springs, the order was taken out against Rose on Aug. 5 by an ex-husband, Stanley Rose of Colorado Springs. She was ordered to stay away from Stanley Rose and their two children. Debra and Stanley divorced in 2000, according to records. It was her fifth marriage.

Debra Rose was arrested after Stanley reported that she called him several times in violation of the order. Stanley also told police that Debra's estranged husband called him twice. The records did not identify the estranged husband.

This is starting to sound more and more like a family abduction to me...for whatever reason...either way, Nicholas needs to be located and returned to safety.

You hate to think a child's own family would put them through something such as this...but unfortunately it is true more often than not.

    {snip}
In court papers, Farber wrote that Rose "is known to be disruptive and emotionally disturbing to children and, I fear that she would take young Nicholas out of state without permission as she has done in the past."

Farber, who divorced Rose in 1996, said he found Nicholas to be "tired, dirty, unkept and hungry" in Colorado. Ex-husband Stanley Rose, said in Orange County court papers that Rose abuses morphine and other drugs.

Rose was held for one day for allegedly violating a restraining order to stay away from another ex-husband and two children in Colorado, according to court papers. A California court granted Farber temporary custody on Aug. 23, and Farber was seeking to make the arrangement permanent at a Sept. 5 hearing.

    Default Springs woman sought

Son was taken from dad in California; mom had staged long custody fight

By Dick Foster, Rocky Mountain News
    August 29, 2002

A Colorado Springs woman was being sought by authorities Wednesday and a search was under way for her 9-year-old son after he was abducted at gunpoint from the home of the woman's former husband in Palm Desert, Calif.

Police also were looking for at least two suspects seen running from the home, one carrying what a neighbor said appeared to be a person with arms and legs dangling.

FBI and state and local agencies in Colorado and California were searching for Debra M. Rose, 38. Gunmen broke into the home of her former husband, Michael Farber, about 2 a.m. Wednesday, beat him and carried 9-year-old Nicholas Michael Farber, clad only in his underwear, to a waiting sport utility vehicle.

California authorities were looking for a vehicle with a Colorado temporary vehicle tag in connection with the abduction. It was described as a gray GMC extended cab pickup truck, with temporary tag number H12197.

"Right now we are handling this as a stranger abduction," Capt. Patrick McManus of the Riverside County (Calif.) Sheriff's Office said at a late-morning news conference, although he confirmed there had been a custody dispute between Farber and Rose.

Addressing the abductors during the news conference, McManus looked into the cameras and said, "We will find you."

He asked the kidnappers to drop the child off at a safe spot such as a fire station or hospital.

Police look for RV in missing boy search

RIVERSIDE, California (CNN) -- Nine-year-old Nicholas Michael Farber, kidnapped in California, may be traveling with his abductors in a motor home with a Florida license plate, police said Friday.

Authorities issued an alert for a tan Fleetwood Bounder with Florida license number HS7OSJ that was last seen in southern California, Riverside County Sheriff-elect Bob Doyle said Friday.

His mother Debra Rose, who is a suspect in the case, is believed to be with him, along with someone else who police believe may have taken part in the abduction.

Authorities cautioned that the suspects could be armed and dangerous.

Default Police Rescue Abducted California Boy

Fate Of Mother Unclear; Boy Kidnapped Wednesday

    Posted: 12:44 p.m. EDT August 30, 2002
    Updated: 4:57 p.m. EDT August 30, 2002

Authorities on Friday found abducted 9-year-old Nicholas Farber safe.

Riverside County (Calif.) Sheriff-Elect Bob Doyle said the Palm Desert, Calif., boy was found at a campground east of San Diego in a motor home for which authorities had issued an all-points bulletin.

Doyle said a person at the campground alerted
authorities after seeing a vehicle that fit the description issued in the all-points bulletin, Doyle said Nicholas emerged from the vehicle unharmed when authorities arrived on the scene, Doyle said. Nicholas' mother, Debra Rose, and an unidentified man were found in the vehicle and
arrested. Earlier in the day, Rose, who is been involved in a bitter custody dispute with the
boy's father, was declared a suspect in Wednesday's violent abduction.

"We believe (Rose) has some culpability," Doyle said.

Doyle credited the boy's rescue to the FBI, the California Highway Patrol, the statewide Amber Alert system and overall publicity of the vehicle carrying the boy. The vehicle was Bounder motor home with distinctive characteristics: kangaroos and orange stripes on each side and Florida license plates.

Earlier, the Riverside County sheriff's department issued an all-points bulletin for the vehicle and passed the license plate number and description on to the California Highway Patrol.

Electronic highways signs in California soon flashed the motor home's description and its license plate number, HS702J.
