Boulder Police Chief Mark Beckner today announced that the JonBenet Ramsey investigation will be taking a new direction. Boulder County District Attorney Mary Keenan and Chief Beckner have agreed that the District Attorney will follow-up on new leads and information in the case. This will involve the assignment of DA investigators who have not previously worked on the Ramsey case. This is an investigative strategy that has been discussed in the District Attorney’s Office and the Police Department for several weeks.

    Beckner says:

"The primary reason for this change is an attempt to further the investigation in a positive manner," said Chief Beckner. "The interests of the Boulder Police Department have always been to do what is in the best interests of the investigation. This is a strategy to address concerns expressed by the Ramseys and their attorney that the Boulder Police Department is not following up additional leads. This may provide the Ramseys and their attorney greater comfort in forwarding what they believe is new information or leads that need to be investigated."

I hope what I am about to say is correct.

The police are doing this "strategy to address concerns expressed by the Ramsey's" crap because they are getting ready for a trial.

I hope this B.S. is just so the Ramsey defense attorney can't say the police did not look into anyone else.

I hope to God the BPD is not so terrified of Wood that they would waste time on crap just so he couldn't sue them.

Read the whole press release. Very interesting.

It looks like the BPD might be running a bit scared of Lin Wood.

    Keenan talks to Ramsey panel

    *snip*

Atlanta-based attorney Lin Wood, who now represents the Ramseys, said Thursday he was not aware Keenan had been conducting the recent meetings.

However, Wood said, "I believe that Mary Keenan is a consummate professional, an experienced prosecutor, and I have, for a long time, been consistent in hoping that at some point Mary Keenan might give this case a look from a fresh-eye perspective.

"That is to say, to have some group that's objective, and experienced in homicide, to review this case to determine what in fact has - and more importantly, has not - been done. That has been my continued hope."

Wood still plans to file a lawsuit by the end of January against the Boulder Police Department, individual members of the force and the city of Boulder, alleging a campaign of choreographed leaks to the media aimed at ruining the Ramseys' reputation.

He said he does not anticipate naming the Boulder district attorney's office as a defendant in that suit.

"I don't believe that the Boulder D.A.'s office has any liability that I'm aware of," said Wood. "Since Mary Keenan has taken office, the question of any potential liability prior to that, when Alex Hunter was D.A., is still an open issue."

Keenan was a member of the Boulder D.A.'s staff at the time of JonBenet's murder, but was never heavily involved in the case. She was elected two years ago to replace Alex Hunter, who stepped down in January 2001 as Boulder's district attorney after holding the post for 28 years.

Keenan has said little during her tenure about the case, which claimed a high toll in terms of jobs lost and people sued.

When questioned about the Ramsey case a year ago, Keenan said, "I'm glad (my involvement) was limited. I'm just fine with that."

Also on Thursday, Wood revealed he was in Boulder early this week. As part of the pretrial discovery process in other Ramsey-related libel litigation, he listened Tuesday to a recording of Patsy Ramsey's frantic 911 call for help the morning JonBenet was discovered missing.

So is this a CYA type move for the Boulder PD? I don't get it.

It’s my understanding that the Los Angeles DA’s office is about to announce that the Nicole Simpson and Ron Goldman investigation will be taking a new direction. The LA District Attorney and Chief of Police have agreed that the District Attorney will follow-up on new leads and information in the case.

    The Chief of Police said:

"The primary reason for this change is an attempt to further the investigation in a positive manner. The interests of the LA Police Department have always been to do what is in the best interests of the investigation. This is a strategy to address concerns expressed by OJ Simpson and his new attorney, Lin Wood, that the LA Police Department is not following up additional leads.â€

I just edited my whole post.

I was wondering why Wood was allowed to listen to the 911 tape. Went back and read again. It's part of the pre-trial discovery in the civil trials.

Still this whole thing is weird. Too weird. The BPD press release sounds like a major suck up to Wood and the Ramsey's.

Could it be the Ramsey's claim to have evidence so therefore the BPD is trying to get them to prove it? Could be. The "new direction" comment is directed to the Ramsey's so they will come forward with their information accoding to the press release.

If the Ramsey's really did have any information of importance don't you think they would have been parading it around like a well groomed show dog? Hell yes. If the Ramsey's had anything that really pointed away from them then we wouldn't be able to shut them up.

The BPD has been criticized for six years by people who don't know anything about what they have or have not done on this case. They have jobs to do that don't involve these Ramsey creeps. I'm glad they did this.

But BobC why now? Why a press release talking about a "new direction"...sounds like it's to appease the Ramsey's which actually, now that I think about it, is ok especially if they are getting ready to make an arrest.

    Another Viewpoint

"This may provide the Ramseys and their attorney greater comfort in forwarding what they believe is new information or leads that need to be investigated."

The irony and sarcasm in these words is so thick, you could cut it with a knife.

My translation: OK, you two narcissistic, arrogant ba$tards.....you and your little dog Linny, too.....you're gonna get what you asked for. A "new direction" in the investigation. No more Patsy-did-it over a peed bed. No sirree! Now it's John the molester did it in an act of erotic asphyxiation....and this one is gonna fly--like a B-52 over Baghdad!!

    I love this part:

It is our hope that by changing the dynamics of the investigation, information maintained by the Ramseys will be forwarded to the DA’s Office for follow-up," stated Chief Beckner. "Obviously, it is impossible to investigate information you do not have access to. We also realize that a fresh look at the case from time to time is healthy and could lead to new progress in the investigation. This will be the fourth time over the course of the 6-year investigation that changes in strategy and responsibility have been made in an effort to further the investigation. Each time, we have had some success in moving the case forward."

Chief Beckner further stated, "It is important for all of us to remember that the ultimate goal is to solve the case for the victim, JonBenet Ramsey. We are willing to try just about any strategy in order to accomplish that goal. We will continue to work in cooperation with the District Attorney’s Office and provide consultation as needed. Any tips or new information received by the Police Department will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for follow-up."

IOW, all Code Six Wingnuts, washed up California PI's, Aspen radio personnel, and Aunt Pam can drop off dirty shorts, Teddy bear messages, testimony of wacky prostitutes, etc. on the doorstep of Mary Keenan. We're too busy with real police work, in the real world.

Why now? Maybe they just want to wash their hands of it. Maybe they're just wanting to be rid of it. This case is filled with so much darkness at this point that I don't even want to follow it anymore.

I like that first comment you posted best...

hir is still saying they haven't investigated that guy that was carrying around JB's picture...hahaha what a dumb chit...I'm sure the BPD is that narrow minded..

I will bet that Keenan has something that will prosecute the Rams. Gonna look mighty fine on her resume, don't you think?

This is all just too good.

BOBC, don't leave now. It's only gonna get better.........

Tricia, you win a cupie doll for your assessment of the BPD's motives.

I'd like to add that if Wood does decide to sue the BPD, the Boulder DA's office will be the ones holding all of the records, and they may have more legal reasons (than the BPD) NOT to release them for a lawsuit. Also, from a public relations standpoint, the ball is in Wood's court to produce all of the leads the Ramseys' investigators have come up with in the last six years. Put up or shut up, Wood.

    law suit

In order for the Ram's to sue the BPD for leaking info that causes their reputation to suffer they are going to have to prove those leaks came from the BPD. Can they sue the whole Dept. if it were individual officers leaking and not a planned effort to make the Rams look bad and does this have any chance if they are public figures?

I'm just thinking they must have some major dangling things to sue a police dept. who has the goods on them. Seems to me it could back-fire on them.

Texan the whole problem is we all think in terms of real life. The real world. The Ramsey's and Lin Wood are so far removed from reality that it is going to come up and bite them so hard in the asss they will have nothing left to hold their pants up.

    Sorry for the visual.

We have to think like they do. Remember this:

*John Ramsey was a very successful CEO of a billion dollar a year company. He surrounded himself with people that wanted to please him. To be a CEO like John was you always have to be RIGHT. No room for mistakes. Now put John the big CEO in the situation on the morning of Dec. 26th and you can understand why he acted the way he did and still does today.

John says an intruder did it. How dare these little Boulder PD peons tell him anything else. By God he won't stand for it. Do you think someone like John Ramsey would marry a woman who would kill her own child? No Way. Come hell or high water John Ramsey will prove everyone wrong.

*Patsy Ramsey. Appearance is everything. EVERYTHING. Therefore she must, at all costs continue the appearance of being the mother of a murdered child. A child who was murdered by an intruder. Keeping up that appearance is a better alternative than the truth. The truth being she killed JonBenet. She has so far removed herself from the reality of what she did that I am sure she believes the lies. I don't even know if she can go deep enough down in herself to remember the ugly truth.

*Lin Wood. You know when you are watching someone start to self destruct and there is nothing you can do about it? That is how I feel about Lin Wood. He is drunk with power. He keeps going and going and why shouldn't he? He hasn't lost yet. Hell take on the BPD. If they had enough evidence they would have charged his clients. Unfortunately the BPD did make enough mistakes in the beginning to help fuel Lin Wood's fire. However if he really does sue the BPD then he will be jumping off a 1000 foot cliff and landing on a cement road. The "splat" sound you hear will be Lin Wood's legal career exploding.

John wants to sue the BPD because he is never wrong.

Patsy wants to sue the BPD because she has to keep up the appearance of the victim

Lin Wood wants to sue the BPD because he is out of control and should receive some serious help.

The combination of "The Ramsey Trio" will, in the end, be all of their undoing

    IMO of course

Sparky this case is not "going to get better." It's over. The bad guys always win. This is the sickest new low ever . I can only hope there really is a hell so some of these reptiles will eventually get punished. The only person two people with a backbone who ever worked this case are out of the mix now so don't delude yourself into thinking anything good is on the horizon. I think watching a kiddie porn snuff film would be more moral than watching this crap unfold.

    BobC something just hit me.

I just read your latest post.

    You said "it's over".

Could this be some sort of deal between the BPD, Lin Wood, the D.A.?

The BPD's wording of the release and the DA's promise to take an aggressive look again at the case in conjunction with Wood promising not to sue. Is that a possibility? Perhaps the deal includes not bringing charges in exchange for not suing?

Your post is so negative. Why?

The case is over. Everyone's rolled over on the Nazi fascist, that's why. I thought the whole Kreb's incident was evil, but what's happening now makes that look like sunday school. Anyone who feels they need proof that America's great legal system hasn't been perverted beyond belief need look no further than Atlanta GA right now. I can only hope there really is a hell for these people...
