Big plans for case of missing Georgetown teen Williamson sheriff announcing today that several new investigators will try to solve Rachel Cooke case. By Sarah Coppola AMERICAN-STATESMAN STAFF Thursday, January 22, 2004 GEORGETOWN -- A team of investigators has been assembled to solve the case of missing Rachel Cooke, Williamson County Sheriff Jim Wilson will announce today. The team -- at least seven criminal investigators from local, state and federal law enforcement agencies -- will re-investigate Cooke's case, Chief Deputy Mike Lummus said. This task force is exactly what the Cooke's have been asking for the past year and a half. It took a new sheriff in town to get that done. Because he lost his son in a car accident 19 years ago, he couldn't imagine not knowing. One of the first things the task force has to do is review all the information pertaining to this case. It's a process that will take weeks. Rachel Cooke disappeared January 10th, 2002. A neighbor last saw her jogging toward her parents' home that morning in a Georgetown subdivision. Rachel Cooke Interagency Task Force Announced Today at 2 p.m. the Williamson County Sheriff's Office announced an Interagency Task Force will be reviewing Rachel Cooke's case from the beginning. The task force will be made of members of local, state and federal agencies -- all with experience in cracking cold cases. Among those on the task force will be the Williamson County Sheriff's Office, Austin Police Department, the FBI, Georgetown Police Department, and Texas Rangers. The press conference included Tricia Griffith owner of Forums For Justice and Tim Miller Director of Texas Equusearch addressing the need for this task force. The task force will meet in Willamson County next week to review all the details of the case.
