JonBenet Murder Suspect's Family Says He Was Always Fascinated by Her Death
    Thursday, August 17, 2006

    http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,208926,00.html

PETALUMA, Calif. — John Mark Karr displayed a deep fascination with JonBenet Ramsey long before he was arrested in her death.

Karr, who told reporters Thursday that he was "with JonBenet when she died" but that "her death was an accident," began teaching children in Georgia and Alabama before he became a substitute in Petaluma, a bucolic wine country town where he lived until 2001 with his wife and three sons.

The Denver Post reported that Karr, 41, disappeared that year after being released from jail, where he had been held on child pornography charges. His father, Wexford Karr of Atlanta, told the newspaper his son had told him he was behind bars in connection with the Ramsey case.

Sonoma County Chief Deputy District Attorney Joan Risse confirmed the pornography charges and an outstanding arrest warrant against a John M. Karr, though she said she didn't know if he was the same person held in JonBenet's 1996 death in the child's Colorado home.

Lara Karr of Petaluma, who divorced Karr in 2001, told KGO-TV in San Francisco that he often spent time reading up on the cases of Ramsey and Petaluma resident Polly Klaas, who was abducted and slain in 1993.

His father told The Denver Post that while Karr was in college as an adult, a professor encouraged him to write a book about the Ramsey case after being impressed with a school paper.

"He researched everything he could about her," Wexford Karr said.

John Karr spoke with JonBenet's grandparents, but the Ramseys refused an interview, Wexford Karr said.

He said he feared his son may have been dead before hearing about the arrest Wednesday in Thailand because he hadn't heard from him in several years.

John Karr declined Thursday to say what his connection was to the Ramsey family.

An attorney for the Ramseys said Karr once lived near the family in Conyers, Ga., but the Ramseys moved to Colorado when JonBenet was a baby. The head of Thailand's immigration police, Lt. Gen. Suwat Tumrongsiskul, quoted Karr as saying that he tried to kidnap JonBenet for $118,000 ransom but that the plan went awry and he strangled her. "He said he was in love with the child, she was a pageant queen," Suwat said.

Two resumes posted online with Karr's name and picture offered possible clues to his whereabouts after he left California.

Starting in 2001, one resume said, Karr was a private teacher and caregiver in Germany, the Netherlands, South Korea, Costa Rica and Honduras, almost always working with young children. The other resume was less detailed.

The longer resume said that in Germany he cared for two girls, ages 5 and 8, and a boy, 10, getting them ready for school and helping with homework.

"At days end, I made sure the children had their evening bath, then put them to bed and read to them before they went to sleep," the resume said.

From 2004-05, the resume said, he worked as a second-grade teacher in Honduras.

The authenticy of the resumes could not be confirmed. An English institute removed the shorter resume from its Web site Thursday in response to a reporter's query, citing concerns about bad publicity. A call to the administrator of the site with the longer resume was not immediately returned Thursday.

Karr, a short, thin blond with a Southern accent, had a valid California teaching credential and passed the background check that included submitting his fingerprints to the Department of Justice to make sure he had no criminal record, Sonoma County school officials said.

But his desire to teach didn't translate into ability, according to one administrator.

Bob Raines, superintendent and principal at Wilson Elementary School outside Petaluma, twice hired Karr as a substitute in second- and fourth-grade classes in 2001. After observing him, Raines said he concluded Karr hadn't been trained, had poor skills keeping classes focused and was ineffective.

"He just seemed like somebody who thought he wanted to be a teacher," Raines said. "After a few days, I could see it just wasn't for him."

He instructed his secretary not to call Karr again unless they were desperate.

A couple months later, Sonoma sheriff's officials sent a letter to school officials saying Karr had been arrested, said Carl Wong, the Sonoma County superintendent of schools.

John and Lara Karr's former Petaluma neighbor, Sylvia Ross, said she occasionally asked him over to her house to fix her computer.

"Personality-wise, I think there was a little kink that I saw," said Ross, a retired schoolteacher and real estate agent. He was "too friendly, too talkative, too inquisitive."

Karr's interest in the case apparently continued during his foreign travels.

A law enforcement source, speaking on condition of anonymity, told the AP that Karr had been communicating periodically with somebody in Boulder who was cooperating with law enforcement officials.

A spokesman for the University of Colorado, Barrie Hartman, confirmed that journalism professor Michael Tracey, communicated with Karr over several months and contacted police.

Has there ever been a more likely suspect for making a false confession than John Karr?

He is small in stature - "Karr, a short, thin blond..."

He failed as a teacher - "But his desire to teach didn't translate into ability..."

Karr is lacking in physical stature, which has probably affected his confidence, and has no ability as a teacher, which would further erode his confidence. What better way for him to get the attention he craves than to confess to a crime he didn't commit?

Yeah but how conveniently does he segue into the Ram's own "profile" from DOI :

The murderer is a man (tremendous blow to head required man strength)
is a pedophile with preference for "female children"
    psychopath
    probably 25-35
    movie-goer
ex-con or associate of hardened criminals
    glove wearer
    gang member or foreigner
tier of knots, garotter, snuffsex bondage interest
    post offense interest in case
    118 & SBTC have meaning
    angry at/jealous of JR
    access to a stun gun
    Christmas in Boulder

Hits on a few points, convenient for a hoax/publicity seeker/patsy( I mean scapegoat) ...but then things like his "Basement? What basement?" expression on tv says it all.

UPDATE: KARR SHOWED INTEREST IN POLLY KLAAS MURDER
    08/17/06 1:10 PDT
    SANTA ROSA (BCN)

Sonoma County Superior Court documents released today show that John Mark Karr, the suspected killer of JonBenet Ramsey, communicated with Richard Allen Davis, the convicted killer of 12-year-old Polly Klaas, and possessed a copy of Klaas' death certificate.

The information is contained in an Oct. 3, 2001 document in which Karr's deputy public defender asks the court to suppress evidence seized at Karr's home.

Sonoma County Sheriff's Department investigators went to Karr's home at 2004 Chetwood Ave. in Petaluma on April 3, 2001 to seize his computer. Karr, 41, was charged with five misdemeanor counts of possession of child pornography. He disappeared before his trial was scheduled to begin in January 2002.

Karr told a sheriff's detective he had a letter from Richard Allen Davis at his home and that he would get it for the detective. The detective asked Karr about the death certificate of Polly Klaas and Karr said the letter from Davis and the death certificate were at his old house, at 1041 Addison Circle in Petaluma, and the detective was welcome to see them.

Sheriff's detectives searched the Addison Circle house without a warrant and seized a computer with a hard drive that allegedly contained five images related to the possession of child pornography charges, according to the court document.

Karr is suspected of killing JonBenet Ramsey on Dec. 26, 1996. Davis was convicted of the October 1993 slaying of Polly Klaas and sent to San Quentin State Prison in September 1996.

I find him very effeminate WY. although there are men who have effeminate habits, but are not necessarily Homosexual, if it's okay to say this (?).

I find it very difficult that D.A. Mary Lacy had the audacity to appear on camera and have nothing of any substance to say, while flanked with these
so called Macho men behind her, who also had nothing to say, but seemed to be enjoying the attention. as far as I'm concerned. I wasn't impressed
with Mary Lacy. I think it should be Lazee Mary. How stupid she looked up there saying, "I'm sorry, I can't comment on that."

    Aw, c'mon Elle and all

Don't be so hard on the guy. He just needs a new wardrobe, beginning with one of those fashionable lovely white jackets; you know, the one with the extremely long arms that fasten in the back.

It would certainly BE HIM, doncha think?

Seriously, and I will not stop shouting this from the rooftops. I am cautiously optimistic that this is going to turn out to be a blessing in disguise.

I think they went (RST) in over their heads on this one and not only will the case get its much needed renewed attention, but the DA and the news media won't let this go as all are being criticized and humiliated and they are going to want their pound of flesh for this fiasco. Tracey, Lacy, Wood, and who knows who else has plenty of flesh that needs to be given

Sometimes not even the most money can buy your way out of a situation where the whole world is watching and waiting. I am hoping that this is one of those times

or maybe it's just the lack of sleep because of this case, and truthfully, the lack of anything else at the moment BUT JonBenet Ramsey. Yeah, my family and friends are just thrilled. I am locked away like a mental patient with my computer and TV. I don't take calls and when hubby approaches, I snarl and he laughs and asks if I'm ever coming home again.....but he's so good, despite his protestations, he will call in to me to put on such and such station cause they are talking to whoever about JonBenet....then he laughs and says I better not tell anyone how much he knows about the case because of me.

    I'm very lucky

And I will not stop shouting from the rooftops that what Michael Tracey is doing here is a FEDERAL CRIME. It is a state crime as well (Obstruction of Justice) but the local jurisdiction is hopeless. Also, an ongoing conspiracy to interfere in the administration of justice is also prosecutable under the racketeering act (RICO).

Who's the Governor these days - Sorry I'm not up on Colorado - the Governor should order a special prosecutor asap.

The egg on every one's faces here has got to result in some ACTION. We've know all this was going on for years, but now the big bright media light has shown all the bugs and rats and dirt that live in the JonBenet "Investigation".

I am not naive, but I cannot believe how amateurish Mary Lacy appeared yesterday. From the bottle of water on, she was unprepared, nervous, clueless, and had to read the law from notes. She came across as a low-end politician who was just up there to say nice things about her colleagues. Not ready for primetime. I know lots of you think she's in on a scam to protect the Ramseys, but I think she's just incompetent.

Moab said on her car radio they just said that Karr is on suicide watch, with a guard in the cell, and he's depressed and rambling.

Hahahahaha! Barbara, you had my attention up until the white jacket. You're wicked! I hope you're right about it being a blessing in disguise. I was just asking WY what her thoughts were on this.

Like you, I am totally absorbed with all my books filled with bookmarks. I displayed them all to my family when Karr was on the news. They all know how long I have been involved, and they were all excited about this news on TV, and then I gave them my "John Ramsey" statement, not to rush to conclusions. :)

Who is the "her" they're speaking about in the motion?

Karr also said that while he was researching his book, he came into contact with a third party whom he suspected of sexually assaulting a child and was trying to "dupe" her into a full confession.
