I find it inconceivable given the circus environment that existed, the world-wide humiliation of the Boulder Police Department, the embarrassment of the City of Boulder, and the media feeding frenzy that occurred in the 2-3 years following the murder, that the Boulder DA would lightly or irresponsibly glom onto some kook in Thailand, have him picked up on a 1st degree murder warrant and bring him halfway around the world to Boulder under police escort, with the eyes of the world watching on every major TV channel on earth, without one hell of a very good reason for doing so.

Despite his wierdness and the seeming inconsistencies that exist at this time in the absence of confirming information, my guess is that Mary Lacy and her investigative and prosecutorial team know something that 97.9% connects this guy to the crime. They cannot possibly be so reckless, so naive and so irresponsbile as to bring the world's attention to Boulder and this case again, in a way that is likely to turn them into utter fools.

Let's also keep in mind that the FBI, Immigration Enforcement, the State Department, Interpol, the Thai Police, and a long list of other high-level governmental and law enforcement agencies on an international scale have been involved, and that a District Court judge in Boulder reviewed the affidavit of probable cause and signed the arrest warrant.

There just may be a great deal more to this story than meets the eye at the moment. And it well may be that Mary Lacy's refusal to provide futher details at this point is emblematic of her concern about possibly compromising her case and giving a defense attorney grounds upon which to get the charges dismissed against the suspect.

    WRONG!

They ARE reckless, naive and irresponsible ... and those are the NICEST things I can say about them. I'll let KK respond with a full description of the BDA ... she can type dirty words faster than I can.

Newspapers here are printing that this guy IS the killer - with the exception of the Sun who seem to have been following facts more carefully (as usual). The Sun is our best known tabloid - famous for being able to find a sex angle on just about every news item! However, it usually gets the story right and has a reputation for being "teflon coated" when it comes to lawsuits.

I have to be fair here--Lacy has done nothing wrong . It was not she who brought this to the media's attention--it was John Ramsey. Lacy did, however, caution everyone to "not jump to conclusions." I think things have been carefully manipulated to make it seem like Lacy has had this guy arrested for the murder of Jonbenet, but so far she hasn't said anything of the kind.

Guys--it is a fact that other people have confessed to this murder, but none of them got any attention.

    Tag team, huh? Ok, then!

I guess we have to #!%#+@!#*!=##$!+\#!! wait and see, won't we?!

My money is on FOOLS. I have yet to see Lacy do one thing since she took office that didn't smack of prosecutorial misconduct:

Allowing the prime suspects' lawyer to dictate the investigation to her, including removing the true investigative agency from the case, the BPD.

Bringing the RST's #1 intruder theorist, Lou Smit, into the investigation as a consultant, not to mention John Douglas, Ollie and Disgusting, ignoring all other PRO investigators and experts who are NOT RST.

Telling the press she agreed with a civil suit decision in favor of the Ramseys, based on limited information provided by none other than...Lou Smit.

Attending the funeral of the number one prime suspect as a family friend.

Obstructing her own investigator, Jim Kolar, from interviewing the Ramseys when they were in town on a very rare occasion.

    Just for a few points....

And might I add...#!%#+@!#*!=##$!+\#!!#!%#+@!#*!=##$!+\#!!, not to mention, #!%#+@!#*!=##$!+\#!!#!%#+@!#*!=##$!+\#!!, as well as #!%#+@!#*!=##$!+\#!!#!%#+@!#*!=##$!+\#!!, in the EXTREME!!!

    Howzat, Chero?

Didn't Trip de Muth run against Lacy for the DA nomination? He has been highly critical. But rightly so. They had better have something better than a half baked confession "I was with JonBenet when she died" -- Yes,he can say he meant his spirit was in the room or something...

I would love to know what the "element" was which was never revealed. Bet it's out on one of the forums or websites.

I believe the RST knows this isn't the guy but they love all the attention it is getting with furthers the intruder theory. However, I think that the skepticism alot of the talking heads are bringing forth just point right back to the Ramseys. When Kerr is released, which I am sure he will be, people are going to forget this and they will only remember the arrest and all the media attention. Some people I know actually thought there had already been a trial in this case, they just don't follow it or pay attention, but this latest
fiasco has been hard to miss.

I have my doubts about Lacy making any kind of a case against Karr at this point. When even case insiders like DeMuth and Posner are calling BS, I think Lacy is on shaky ground.

She and that Nifong guy in Durham may end up competing for "Stupidest DA of the Year" award.

    Massive Prosecutorial Incompetence?

    To quote crimerant blog:

Boulder Than They Ought to Be
It has to be the thin air in Colorado making those cops and prosecutors arrogant and snub-nosed. Because as the facts emerge, not about who murdered JBR, but how this tight-lipped group of prosecutors and investigators has proceeded to investigate John Karr. When all is said and done, I think you’ll see there is a terrible disregard here for even street common sense.

Reportedly, it wasn’t until Wednesday morning, after Johnny Boy Karr was in Thai custody on a warrant from California, that someone with a badge from Boulder, Colorado, called the Marion County School District in Hamilton, Alabama, where Karr once taught, to ask for a sample of Karr’s handwriting to compare to the infamous ransom note left inside the Ramsey mansion by JBR’s killer.

That means Mary Lacy and her posse are not basing their case on a handwriting match. That much is clear form this behavior.

    But there’s more—much more.

If that wasn’t bad enough, Mary Lacy’s office hasn’t contacted the Colorado Bureau of Investigation to initiate a comparison check of DNA, handwriting, fingerprints, footprints, or the shoe and hand size of Mister Rogers-Karr to the evidence found at the murder scene. On top of that, I also heard from a trusted source that the DA’s office haven’t even spoken to “education officials†in Colorado or California to learn more about Karr’s history as a teacher there.

As Crime Rant reported on Friday, Karr’s ex-wife, Lara Knutson (we had that spelling wrong first time out) and Karr’s kids haven’t yet been interviewed regarding Karr’s whereabouts at the time of JBR’s murder.

Here’s another anomaly (and this one really tells me a lot about the case against Karr): the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department in California, which issued the initial “fugitive warrant†against Karr in 2001, charging him with “five counts of misdemeanor possession of child pornography,†said they were “unaware†of Karr’s possible connection to the Ramsey case until after he was in Thai custody.

Let me translate that into English: they saw it on television like the rest of us. In other words, not a soul from Boulder contacted Sonoma County before arresting Karr.

Does that make any sense whatsoever?

At a news conference last Thursday, a stoic Mary Lacy, quite conceited and haughty in her demeanor if you ask me, but also looking very scared and confused, playing the tough-gal prosecutor role not all that well, said “exigent circumstances forced the arrest of Mr. Karr.†Her office would have preferred to arrest him later. She did not talk about any of the evidence she has that ties Karr to JBR’s murder, simply because her office is in the process, obviously, of getting that evidence together now—if it exists at all.

    ---snip---

Former Denver prosecutor Craig Silverman said something very interesting to the Denver Post this morning, and it’s worth repeating: “ou must conclude either Mary Lacy has solid, conclusive evidence—or this is massive prosecutorial incompetence.â€

Good for Lin, John, and Tracey that Larry King doesn't usually get down to the nitty-gritty! Don't forget to tune into night - I have a feeling it will be worth your cable bill!

The forensic psychologist who worked the case with the Boulder LE for 5 years just said on Fox that there is no evidence in this case that hasn't come out somewhere, and that nobody is going to get convicted on something he wrote in a yearbook 20 years ago--re: SBTC.

Years ago a Websleuths poster theorized that maybe SBTC didn't really stand for anything. She pointed out that S might have been chosen because it was used by the infamous SLA (Simbanese Liberation Army), and T because it follows S in the alphabet. B is the first consonant in the alphabet, and C follows it.

    S B T C

Edited because I had goofed and said "vowel" instead of consonant.

    LOL BobC!

Your statement above...."To be fair, Mary Lacey has done nothing wrong."

Under the title, "What Was She Thinking?" I can come up with a number of things she has done wrong. We can start with her hair-do and move on from there to her script at the self congratulatory "Accademy Award" press conference announcing to the world wide press that the BPD had a new suspect who had confessed to the JonBenet Ramsey Murder where she thanked everyone from her personal staff to most of Thailand.....I actually thought she might be ready to thank the new suspect for being so forthcoming and confessing so readily...

She issued an arrest warrant for her new suspect without even bothering to assess whether he was indeed a viable suspect and whether his confession made one bit of sense in terms of evidence or likelihood.

Then Lacey, at great expense and with much negative publicity, set about trying to make herself and Professor Tracey look like heros by having this nutcase confessor extradited back to the United States at great expense to the taxpayers, while tying up the valuable time of Federal officers and homeland security personel.....

My opinion is that this whole debacle is about to blow up in her face and I am thinking that she deserves whatever the worst scenario brings her (hope it brings her DOWN) and that she takes the good professor/crockumentary writer down with her.....

Have to disagree with you on this one BobC, she has done a lot that is wrong (and this is just the most recent of her wrongdoings in my opinion!)
