Well, we have certainly learned a few more things after watching Greta tonight.

    1. Steve Thomas did an excellent job in tactfully shaming Mary Keenan Lacy and her office. But more than that, Steve reminded us all that those crime scene photos of the basement window and suitcase which Smit et al has been parading around for years as "evidence" of an intruder were not pristine. As Steve said, the photos were not time stamped and Fleet White offered testimony that he opened the window and moved the suitcase long before Boulder PD photographers showed up to photograph everything.

    2. How much do you love the fact that Roxanne Bailin is as culpable for extremely poor professional judgment in granting an arrest warrant as Lacy? What is this, a coffee klatch? Thanks for pointing this out, Greta! Here is a judge who has presided over the GJ and every legal issue, great and small, in or surrounding the Ramsey case for the last 10 years (except the civil suits). If anyone was familiar with all the intimate details of the case it is Judge Bailin who should have been able to tell at a glance that Karr's emails were factually way off the mark thus demanding far more judicious handling of his Thai detainment and any DNA efforts than an all-out arrest warrant. Shameful!

    3. And who doesn't love Michael Baden who totally slammed all those stupid handwriting "experts" for going on air claiming 99.9% certainty that Karr's yearbook handwriting matched the ransom note writing!

Clearly the authorities in Boulder are way too tight with each other such that they ignore the facts of this case and just plain ole common sense in wasting so much time, money and energy pursuing yet another of Tracey/Smit's "intruders".

    Well done, Greta!

I was watching Fox News and happened to catch Steve Thomas on Greta's show. Very interesting comments! One thing I didn't understand, though: Was he implying that Fleet White deliberately moved the suitcase under the basement window to make it look like there had been an intruder?

    Thanks for that summary, Deja!

Way to go, Baden!!! Woohoo ... smackin' those phony handwriting "experts" Baggett and Lehew around! Well, there goes your reputation, Baggett, just like I predicted ... to h*ll in a handbasket! Buh-bye, now!

Now, will some kind soul (like Why_Nut) please say they TiVoed Greta and are uploading it to YouTube as we speak?! :D

No, Carol, quite the opposite. Steve is saying Fleet admitted to moving the suitcase and therefore, the intruder COULD NOT have moved it to get out out of the basement and through the window like Smit said.

    Deja, Good Summary

Steve Thomas was very articulate. He is so intelligent and kind. Yes, kind! Instead of ripping a new one for Roxie and Mary, he gave only a gentle reprimand.

Heads should roll over this stupid and expensive fiasco. Bailin, Lacy, Tracey--all should lose their jobs.

The Governor of CO. said that this has been the most expensive DNA test in history!

The sad part is that the general public are blaming the Boulder Police Department for this major screw-up. They don't realize that the case was taken away from BPD by Mary Lacy and that the buck stops with her.

    Hmmm???

Where did all these "experts" disappear to tonight? Nary a one of them had the guts to do a "mea culpa" on camera.

Oh no--they were on Larry King. Some fat guy was on talking about Lacy's incompetence, and Larry King suddenly blurted out "But didn't YOU just come on the show Friday and call Karr a valid suspect?"

These people are all clowns. It is sad that regular people like us forum people have more on the ball than these dummies

    Yeah, I Saw That Clown

But but but----we all thought Lacy had some bombshell up her sleeve! The one who annoyed me the most was that red-headed banshee on Nancy Grace. I almost expected her to fly away on her broomstick.

Not ALL of us thought that!!! :)

I've been convinced of Lacy's stupidity and incompetence for a long time now. Her extreme bias in favor of the "intruder" theory (and obsequious fawning over the Ramseys) has completely undermined, and horribly skewed, her judgement in this case.

I knew there wasn't a bombshell, and the only way Karr was going down for JBR's murder was if he was railroaded by a corrupt and incestous judicial system ... which, unfortunately, DOES exist in Boulder.

Said banshee is that woman in Boulder all week, Jean Ceasares or Cesarass or some such. She has been screaming all week about how brilliant Lacy is and how she MUST HAVE SOMETHING EVERYONE AGREES...and now she's screaming that KARR WROTE THIS AWFUL STUFF AND LACY HAD EVERY REASON TO SUSPECT HIM AND BRING HIM BACK AND blahblahblah.

She has been reading her little lips off all day with the documents that came out of the DA's office. That's where I heard the bad stuff Karr wrote/told in his confession to Tracey...which I'm thinking he must have told Tracey in his "channeling" of the crime scene or some such nonsense...or maybe just to please Tracey, who seems to have gotten off on this as much as Karr....

    shiver

Boy, we landed in the Creepo Big Leagues this week, didn't we?

I wanted to put my hand through the TV and slap her silly! She was like, HOW THEY DARE THEY cancel the show!!! As if the hearing was for her amusement.

Uh-oh. What did Bill Maher have to say about the JonBenet case?

Let's just say he would fit rather well in here........I will check the LKL transcripts to see if his rant is up yet - but I warn you now - the truth hurts.

And coming up, we're going to ask Bill Maher for his take on John Mark Karr and the kershuffle (ph) when he joins me here on set right when we come back. Don't go away.

    (COMMERCIAL BREAK)

    (BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

MAHER: When I see this coverage of this guy, this John Mark Karr guy, I'm like is the media kidding? This guy, how would -- how would -- how could he be the burglar? He didn't -- JonBenet was not famous until she was murdered. They talk about him like he was the guy who killed John Lennon but John Lennon was famous before. I think it's just -- they just like to go after the story because JonBenet sells papers.

    (END VIDEO CLIP)

KING: He's back, always good to have him with us, Bill Maher, the host of Real Time With Bill Maher, back for another season on HBO. It began last Friday, 11:00 Eastern, his "New Rules" -- no, 11:00 everywhere Eastern and 8:00 and everywhere. He's on all over the board.

"New Rules" is now available on DVD and his New York Times best- selling book "New Rules" comes out in paperback on September 5th. There's other things to tell you about him but we'd run out of show.

OK, were you saying this shouldn't have been covered at all? What are you saying?

MAHER: That's what I -- that person who you just had on the clip looked a lot like me. I think he was right.

KING: Don't cover it at all. What were you saying?

MAHER: Well, I wouldn't say don't cover it at all but it was astounding to me that the media, you know, just like (INAUDIBLE) JonBenet any excuse to show footage of her prancing around in a cowboy outfit like a little whore so what?

KING: What do you do with a story that's been around ten years? You got to admit it has been a story. The New York Times had it front page the first day.

MAHER: I know but the media is supposed to be some sort of filter aren't they? They're supposed to be a little more intelligent than the average person.

KING: So, how would you have covered this really?

MAHER: Well first of all I would have looked at it, what that man, me, just said there last Friday night. How about the idea that how could he have done this? How could he have known about JonBenet Ramsey? They didn't care. They didn't want to look at that. They didn't because what they wanted to do was get back into the JonBenet story because that's good eyeball grabbing stuff.

KING: Supposing they wanted to get into it...

    MAHER: But this guy...

KING: ...because the public is interested in it?

MAHER: Well, the fourth estate used to feel that they had a little bit of a duty to tell the public what was important and what was not and not to cover everything. Yes, you could put porn on CNN and I'm sure you'd get more eyeballs.

But this guy was, you know, he was the Paris Hilton of pedophiles. He was famous for nothing. He did absolutely nothing. And I think it just -- the reason why I was talking about it, and Christopher Hitchens (ph) said, "We'll you're doing the same thing."

And before I was cut off I was going to say that the reason I was bringing it up is not just to make the point about what was going on but also that the press is so uncritical about what they choose to cover and what questions they choose to ask, if they had chosen...

KING: Those questions were asked. This guy is probably a kook. I said every night this guy looks innocent.

MAHER: I'm not talking about you, Larry.

KING: But you mean there are some that (INAUDIBLE)?

MAHER: You're not a news show. You're an interview show. You're different. I'm talking about when people tune in to get the news, OK. And it's the same thing with the run-up to the war in Iraq, the same sort of uncritical coverage. I think there is a theme running through here.

KING: Who should have been criticized, the Boulder D.A., in your mind who should have -- who should have been laced?

MAHER: Well that's certainly part of it but that's not my business. My business is show business/media, so yes I do criticize. And when I criticize CNN or I brought up Time Magazine also last week on the show, you know, we do it out of affection because these are, you know, are institutions that we have come to love, that we grew up with because there was something for smart people. And so we're doubly disappointed when we tune into something that we feel is for the smart people and they're covering something that's not smart.

KING: Would you admit smart people in wherever they were, were talking about JonBenet last week?

    MAHER: They may have been.

KING: Smart people, intellectuals, professors were talking about JonBenet?

MAHER: OK but, again, I think the media should be a leader and in that regard I think they should have said, "You know what, this is not a credible story. Just because we can cover it doesn't mean we have to."

KING: And do you think it was covered, the proverbial we, as if he were guilty?

MAHER: Absolutely, when the truth is they should have right from the beginning go, "This guy couldn't possibly be the guy. Yes, he killed her in his mind but that's as far as it went." It was so -- to me it was obvious that this was just a guy who wanted publicity. He was a creepy guy in a lot of ways, I mean you know, we'd want to get this guy off the streets but certainly he wasn't the murderer.

KING: Why do you think the D.A. ran with it?

MAHER: Another good question, probably because anyone who can works in a more high paying law enforcement job and, you know, this is why you get O.J. trials where the evidence is overwhelming to convict the man but it's the dream team up against people who are on a public salary.

KING: We'll take a break and come back, lots more to talk about with Bill Maher. We'll get into things like the Mel Gibson controversy and other things he may have thoughts about. Bill Maher is back. Don't go away.

Thanks, RiverRat. I assume that means that Bill Maher thinks the Ramseys have been less than sincere.
