Professor says media unfairly convicted parents.

SOUTH BEND -- Was JonBenet Ramsey killed by her parents or by an intruder who broke into the family's Colorado home almost 10 years ago?

That may never be answered, but one professor believes the girl's parents were unfairly presumed guilty from the start of the investigation.

Going through a laundry list of evidence that he said was in plain sight at the crime scene, Professor Michael Tracey of Colorado University Boulder has spent the last nine years of his life trying to convince people that an unfair judgment was made.

Tracey asserts that the media deliberately led countless people to believe that John and Patsy Ramsey were the culprits in their daughter's death.

"The media coverage wasn't just excessive, but it was wrong," he told a crowd of about 150 at Indiana University South Bend on Wednesday night.Instead, he detailed how an intruder was likely responsible for the killing of the 6-year-old beauty queen, who died at her family's home in Boulder, Colo., in December of 1996.

"All the major (media) stories had little or no foundation," said Tracey.

When John Mark Karr was recently arrested, media outlets sought out Tracey for interviews. Karr was later released. No one has been charged with the death of JonBenet.

Tracey said media reports about the family not grieving properly, evidence that no footprints were found in the snow and no signs of forced entry in the home gave the public a perception from the beginning that it was the parents.

Tracey said law enforcement officials didn't do enough to look into whether someone other than the parents could have done it.Tracey points to numerous signs that JonBenet's parents were not involved.

The "intruder theory," as Tracey calls it, shows that someone else could have easily broken into the home that day and killed the girl.

"They say there were no signs of forced entry, but there were several windows open and a couple of unlocked doors," Tracey told the crowd.

"There were no footprints in the snow, because there was no snow in some areas of the yards and on the walkways," he said.

But the most important evidence, he said, was the autopsy. He believes two marks on JonBenet's back and face were left by a stun gun, which has not been confirmed. And there were several other signs that the girl was tortured."They were trying to torture her," Tracey said. "This is a staging by a mother? With the savagery of the crime, it doesn't make sense that a mother would do this."

Professor Tracey obviously didn't hear the statement FBI Agent Ron Walker made during a TV interview, Little, that parents have been known to do much worse, and he had seen it all. If you have the confirmation of this TV episode on hand, would you please post it. If not, I'll try and locate it later. Information on the JonBenÃ©t case vanishes off the net in a wink.

Dr. John Macdonald

Det. Tom Haney, who interviewed Patsy Ramsey in 1998, co-authored a college textbook with this member of the same association:

Dr. John Macdonald, Professor Emeritus at the University of Colorado, is the author or co-author of twelve books on crime and criminals. As a forensic psychiatrist he has interviewed over 400 murderers and a wide range of other criminal offenders. During the last fifteen years he has talked to members of the Irish Republican Army on the street, in their homes and in Long Kesh, a prison in Northern Ireland. For over twenty years he has responded to crime scenes with Denver detectives, and he has attended many police training sessions including two weeks training in hostage negotiation at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia.

Dr. Macdonald is also a friend of Alan Prendergast. It is doubtful that the slimey limey wants to hear what any of these people with real credentials have to say.
