Taking the Maglite from the kitchen counter to avoid having to turn on a basement light, the two headed down there to engage in some kind of child sexual exploration play, like "doctor." This may have begun with the "garrote" device being placed around JonBenet's neck, maybe in a "lead the prisoner" type of scenario, or maybe as part of a choking game.

When the end of the broken art brush was inserted into her (years ago, a boy around Burke's age called "Jooner" did that to my 3-year-old sister, but with a twig), JonBenet screamed. She started to stand up. Afraid she'd tell on him - or to silence her screaming, which could alert their parents - he panicked and grabbed the cord and yanked her back down. Still pulling the cord, he then, in a knee-jerk reaction, quickly grabbed the Maglite with one hand and struck her on the head with it, and gave the cord a second, very hard, yank.

Whether both John and Patsy were in bed asleep, or one or both were really puttering about in and around their bedroom, at least one of them may have heard JonBenet scream, if she did in fact scream. I think it's also possible that Burke may have screamed or yelled out in panic and they heard him, or that in desperation he ran to them for help.

Regardless of how John and Patsy found out what happened, when they did find out, Burke was sent to his room, and the staging began.

Guess I should add a disclaimer:

My opinion only, and I consider this specific theory only possible.
My only quibble with your theory is that children who are in any way involved in crimes or acts like this tend to act it out over and over again as they grow up. They will draw pictures of it, or find other ways to express it, or just plain act it out, as with continued sex abuse of young girls. There are other subtle ways that children will attempt to re-do something horrible that has happened to them or been done to them.

It is really hard to just completely chase away this kind of awful, horrible, shocking experience from the mind of a young child. Their minds want to go back to it and fix it somehow. So I would be amazed if Burke had actually done this deed, yet never in any way displayed that need to re-visit what happened.

Maybe he did, and was therapized out of it. Maybe he did, and we just didn't know. Maybe he tried, but Daddy and Mommy were too close for comfort. Maybe someday he will crack wide open.

Burke has always been kept on a very short leash. Even now, I doubt he is living a normal college student life. I'll bet he has his own apartment and doesn't spend any time on campus except to get in and out of his classes as quickly as possible. College kids LOVE to pull pranks - if Burke lives in a dorm or frat house I'll bet the place gets plastered with SBTC banners.

I believe Wood said that John Ramsey was upset because a reporter showed up in Burke's DORM ROOM when the Karr arrest story broke, didn't he?

I also believe that Patsy was photographed helping Burke move into his dorm room his freshman year. Remember the picture with the lump on her upper chest?

If memory serves...which it might not at this stage of my life....

Burke DOES live on campus. He said on his MySpace profile that his residence was "Tarkington 222." Tarkington Hall is a dorm on the Purdue campus. (See link below.) Obviously, #222 is his room number. Tarkington Hall is a men's dorm, home to 710 students.

The Ransom Note is the one verifiable link to JonBenet's killer, and the Ramseys want nothing to do with it. Ask yourselves "why?" The answer is obvious.

Thanks for the info Cherkee. That being the case, I imagine he gets his share of comments about his sister's death. And I'll bet some very mean spirited things have also come his way.
