Ramsey house in Charlevoix

I was wondering what had happened with the house and why John seems to have quit flying as much as he was there for awhile. According to

John hasn't moved his plane since January 9, 2009.

So, as of last Wednesday, February 18, 2009, John no longer owns a house in Charlevoix - the town where he ran for office because Michigan was his home, dadgummit, and he wanted to give so much back to the community. Well, I guess since John couldn't buy a job there, he's looking to other, possibly greener, pastures.

 

John Ramsey now lives in Little Rock, Arkansas!

Juli's Law to Require DNA Collection After Arrest

A new proposed law would require law enforcement officials to collect DNA evidence from every suspect arrested in a felony case involving another person, such as rape, sexual assault, battery, domestic battery, kidnapping and burglary.

The bill is named for Juli Busken, a Benton native who was killed in 1996 while attending the University of Oklahoma. Her killer was found in 2004 because of DNA evidence.

The bill also has the backing of John Ramsey, the father of JonBenet Ramsey, the six year old found murdered in her home also in 1996. John Ramsey now lives in Little Rock.

Why Nut,

I'm not trying to be perverse here but how on earth can anyone tell that is John Ramsey flying that plane from the photo? It is just a person. And I thought pilots sat in the left hand seat to fly. Am I wrong here?

 

So, of all places in the world, why did John Ramsey choose to make Little Rock, AR his home?

As far as we know, he has no family there. His kids live in Georgia or other states. Patsy and JonBenet are buried in Georgia. John claimed Michigan was his home, but that obviously didn't last as it was only a ploy to get elected, but at LEAST John had grown up in Michigan and spent summers there. What's the deal with Arkansas?

I suspect KK may be right that it has something to do with John's friend, Ronald Cameron, the president of Mountainaire Industries (Mountair Corp., Mountair Farms), and former director of Doulous Ministries. For details, see

State’s big donors cut back on giving

SOME GROWING Another private foundation that more than doubled its charity was the Jesus Fund. Backed by Ronald Cameron and his Mountaire Corp. feed and poultry company in North Little Rock, the Jesus Fund has grown since May 2004 into Arkansas’ 10 th-largest foundation. It was worth nearly $ 37 million at the end of 2006, a year in which it doled out more than $ 3. 8 million. That’s enough to rank among the top 15 in generosity.

But unlike most private foundations, the Jesus Fund doesn’t publicly detail its charitable spending in its tax return. A company receptionist who said she could not give her name said the charity would be discussed, if at all, via fax.

No one with the company or fund has responded to a list of questions faxed on Monday.

Perspective is a difficult thing. If the dark-haired person in the cockpit is sitting in the left seat and not the right, then either way it could be Burke! He has a student pilot license, and hey, it would save on plane rentals if Dad let him take the personal plane for a practice spin as either pilot or co-pilot.

 

Looks like he (or someone) is on the move now.

You know what I wonder? I wonder why John needed to hire Archuletta on Dec. 26 to fly John's plane to Charlevoix and back 12 years ago because of bad eyesight, I think John said, but John doesn't seem to have had one problem flying all by himself since.

There is something wrong with that story.

 

Maybe John is working again. Somebody's gotta' feed that airplane!

 

Maybe it had something to do with the fact that they were then going on to fly to Florida for the Disney Cruise. I don't know if that part of the vacation was going to be on a commercial flight or a chartered flight, but that could be the reason why he needed Archuletta to fly his plane to Charlevoix (and presumably back home alone to Boulder).

 

My son in Australia, is a pilot, and this week he is taking an instructor's course, Why_Nut. He was saying it was very strange sitting in the right hand seat because he's always in the left while flying.

You can actually see the right hand of whomever is in the left seat of the Ramsey plane through the window.

 

They said they were all flying back to Boulder the next day. Remember that Patsy had the suitcases and clothes for the Big Red Boat trip still out on the bed to finish packing. She said for Charlevoix, they had clothes there and she was only "packing" what they took there for one night in plastic bags.

Another unbelieveable story.

Maybe Patsy didn't finish packing because of what happened to JonBenet.

Maybe Archuletta WAS going to fly them to Florida from Charlevoix and then back to Boulder.

That would mean Archuletta would have known. And if he did, he never told LE. So that would mean he was in on the cover up.

Speculation, of course, but interesting idea, isn't it, DeeDee?

 

That sure is interesting...maybe Arculetta was going to stay with them in Charlevoix, I know they were chummy. There HAS been speculation in the past, hasn't there, about what Arhuletta knew and when he knew it.

Bud and Mary Jean Busken of Benton were at the state Capitol in Little Rock today to testify in behalf of state Rep.

Dawn Creekmore’s effort to enact an Arkansas law requiring suspects to provide DNA samples at the time of their arrest on most felony charges.

Creekmore’s proposed legislation, titled Juli’s Law, was presented to the House Judiciary Committee this morning.

The law is named for the Buskens’ daughter, Juli, who was abducted in December 1996 from her apartment complex parking lot in Norman, Okla., and shot to death in nearby Oklahoma City.

The tragedy occurred shortly after the 21-year-old woman had completed requirements for her fine arts degree in dance performance at University of Oklahoma and ironically occurred on the day she was planning to return to Benton.

The Buskens previously were present at the Capitol to offer support to Creekmore when she conducted a news conference detailing the components of her bill.


DNA was the key to solving Busken’s murder, but it took eight years to make an arrest. A DNA match was obtained after Anthony Castillo Sanchez was imprisoned following a conviction in an unrelated burglary.

Sanchez was convicted of the murder, but currently is seeking a new trial.

Also testifying in today’s proceeding in the Judiciary Committee was John B. Ramsey, father of Jon Benet Ramsey, the Colorado child whose murder received international attention. Ramsey now lives in Little Rock.

Jon Benet Ramsey’s murder also was solved through DNA evidence, but not until last year, many years later. Her mother, who was considered a suspect at one juncture, already had died by the time this occurred.

“If the bill does OK in the Judiciary Committee today, it will then go to the House floor,†Creekmore said.

Providing it receives a successful vote there, it will be assigned to the Senate and then to a Senate committee, she said.

Creekmore said the bill is receiving increased support “once I explain it.â€

“When you take away the fear factor, people are understanding why it’s important,†she said.

On the surface, people tend to “be afraid of DNA,†she noted.

If Creekmore’s bill becomes law, among the charges for which DNA would be required are rape, kidnapping, aggravated assault, murder and burglary.

“The reason burglary is included is that law enforcement officials have indicated that most rapists most often start with burglary,†Creekmore said. “This way, their DNA would already be in the database.â€

Creekmore said she has received support from the Arkansas Sheriff’s Association and police officers. “The biggest hurdle will be the funding aspect,†she said, noting that it could cost the Crime Lab up to $500,000 a year.

Creekmore said she has received “several reports from states that have similar laws and officials there say this is saving money in the long run. It’s getting criminals off the street and also exonerating people who were wrongly accused.â€

Mary Jean Busken said she and her husband and other members of their family are “pleased and certainly supportive of Dawn’s bill. We’ll do anything that we can to help to get these guys off the street. We want to save some other Juli’s out there.â€

The Buskens also are supporting efforts by Oklahoma lawmakers who have proposed a Juli’s Law in that state. The legislation is similar to Creekmore’s bill.

For the past year, Creekmore has been compiling newspaper articles that refer to individuals being exonerated because of DNA.

“Across the board, it will save the state as much as it would cost or more,†she said.

In Creekmore’s earlier news conference, she read a letter John Ramsey had written in support of her bill. She provided copies at the conference.

In the epistle, Ramsey noted his endorsement of Creekmore’s bill and encouraged legislators to “support this important legislation. DNA fingerprinting for arrestees is being adopted by states across the country as a significant tool to identify criminals as well as to protect the wrongly accused.

Implementation of this legislation in Arkansas will put the state in a leadership position among states.â€

Ramsey contended that Juli’s Law will “significantly improve crime solution rates and reduce crime levels as habitual criminals are identified earlier in their criminal activities. Crime-processing expenses will be reduced, making this legislation a cost-saving measure as well. Most importantly, it will help prevent fture human suffering and loss, the cost of which is immeasurable.â€
