    Gosh, I can't even figure out what it is. I don't think it's a towel. I think it's a blanket.

    Is this the blanket...

...the original eyewitness said she saw a man carrying a little girl wrapped in a blanket at 9:30 on the evening Maddie went missing. Is this that blanket?

I wonder if they have tried hypnosis on that witness to get more details from her, like the color of the blanket, and if it could have been a beach towel?

This is so frustrating. It must be agonizing for Maddie's relatives. It reminds me so much of the disappearance of Natalee Holloway...so many false leads, dead ends, hoaxes, and lies!

Looking at the photo...it's way too much fabric for a beach towel.

I think the pic of what they are calling a towel does look like either a blanket or like one of those very large beach towels. Surely it wouldn't take much to determine if there was a beach towel like that owned by the McCann's or the hotel and then to check it for DNA, fibers, hairs, etc. from Madeleine. And a small child wrapped in one of those large beach towels would look like a blanket.

What a cruel joke if this is a hoax but if it's not then I think they should keep looking. She disappeared late at night and odds are if she was killed that night and buried then it was dark out, no doubt pitch black in an area and it was probably hard for the killer to determine the exact land markings so they may have just provided a generalization where they placed the X on the map.

From media reports I know this is not what the McCann's want to hear but their slogan of "no stones unturned" means all stones not just the stones they want to look under. I noticed they removed the news article about this from their web site. This tells me they are in serious denial of where the truth might end up. I believe in the same God that they do and God doesn't always give us answers we want to hear.

I know it may sound insensitive but they wanted the international media coverage to help them find Madeleine and unfortunately that could go for being dead or alive as sad as that thought may be. I fear there is no easy answer for what this family is going to still go through emotionally when and if they find her either way.

This is wonderful news *IF* Kate McCann is serious. They certainly have a head start with connections and bringing this horrible crime to the attention of the world. I would love to see an international system put in place to catch these creeps.

Madeleine McCann Mother Kate May Fight Child Trafficking Fulltime
    By Staff
    Jun 17, 2007

Madeleine McCann Search Continues - Madeleine McCann went missing over forty days ago and quite a few believed that she could have been abducted by child traffickers.

This has been a very difficult week for the McCanns. From the hoax tip which was printed in a Dutch newspaper and reportedly included a map to where authorities could find Maddie's 'body', to a father's day without her involved. One thing her parents hold fast is the belief that she is alive.

Now Kate McCann might use her time towards activism. She might give up her job as a doctor to campaign against child trafficking and raise awareness about missing children, reports the Times UK.

Kate and Gerry McCann are said to be concerned that child trafficking is not taken seriously enough. Kate, 38, is now considering leaving her job as a GP to campaign full-time.

Kate said just last week, 'This is my job now. I can see this becoming my full-time career, with this whole issue of child welfare and opposing pedophiles'."

The McCann's hope to lobby politicians and create an international system that could alert the police, media and even the public within hours of a child gone missing.

They told of their horror at discovering that border crossings were not put on alert in the crucial first hours of Madeleine's disappearance. "From early on we considered that she could have been moved," he said. "It is not far to Spain, not far to ports. Then we found out about the 12-hour delay in alerting borders. We were disappointed."

    700 Pedophiles Busted

Today's news is that a huge European-American child porn ring has been broken up. The main perps were in the UK. Some 30 children-victims were rescued. They were being used in livestream videos...babies as young as two months! Such perversion...it boggles the mind.

Maybe some clue to Maddie's whereabouts will come from this big takedown of hundreds of kiddie pornographers.

Interesting that the main source of the porn was the UK.

I agree. I just looks way to large and thick (from what I can tell) to be a beach towel....I believe its a blanket, also.

    Hope to hear that...

Kate McCann will devote her life to this cause....With her international exposure, some serious attention might be given by interpol and other international agencies to this ever-growing crisis....She might just be the catalyst the world needs at this point....

Also praying along with you Lurker that this huge bust may lead to Madeline and that though she would be traumatized, she might be found alive along with the other children who have been mercifully rescued....I am sure that her parents and friends are on the edge of their seats at this moment waiting for such information...

May the :snake: snakes who have been discovered to be part of this devilish international ring roast in everylasting flames ....In my opinion, no punishment is too harsh for those who harm babies and children this way.

If I live to be a hundred, I will never be able to understand the human mind that perpetuates this kind of perversion and evil torment of children...

I totally agree. It just makes me sick to my stomach....hell would actually be too GOOD for them. (Hope I am not banned for saying this...but, they need to be tied down and have something huge rammed up their ______, let them see how it feels). I hope that I don't offend anyone with my statement...I am jsut pretty upset right now.

LOL..after MY last post, I think that I have scared everyone away. I may have to delete it. I get a little hot under the collar when I think of two month old babies being raped. (And me being pregnant doesn't help matters).

Not trying to start trouble here, but just had to weigh in on this. After NOT keeping up with this story and refusing to create hard feelings on the board with my opinions of the parents leaving the kids alone, it turns out that things have gotten even hotter than even I thought to speculate about

I am shocked to say that this case seems to be turning into a JBR type of case and nobody is more surprised than me. This is an interesting thread at WS for those who are interested. Personally, I am shocked that the investigation is now going towards the parents' involvement. I just thought about the negligence of leaving them alone. I sincerely hope it's not true, but never say never

    I agree Heymom,

Whatever one's opinion of leaving the kids alone was, I was shocked to learn that the investigation has taken THIS type of turn.

See, we just never know. It's a crazy world for sure

    Poor baby

I don't think anyone here thinks it's a good idea to leave little ones alone like that, Barbara, though I simply won't equate that with being a bad parent per se in this situation because Jayelles has told us that's not uncommon there. I remember when I was a young mother and my kid went all over the neighborhood with the other kids playing, and I made him check in at this time and that time, etc. I even dropped kids off at the movie theater and later picked them up. Today, I'm HORRIFIED when I think of that. What was I thinking? It was a different time, though. A small town. Everyone did that kind of thing. People weren't thinking of child predators and kidnappers and murder and such. I was sooooooooo naive. We all were.

Right now, if they're not involved in some way, I am sure no one could blame these parents more than they blame themselves. That's all.

If they are involved in some way, it's a different story. But I was thinking about this last night, and it occurred to me that these parents are not leaving the scene. If they are involved, why wouldn't they leave? The Portugese citizens want them to leave, according to the news report I heard last night, and are getting hostile to them. I can think of one set of parents involved in their little girl's death who left as fast as their connections could carry them.

I'll go read that link, Barbara. Thanks for bringing it to our attention. This looks bad for the child, no matter who did it.
