I wondered if the law in the UK was all that much different from the US. Honestly, how so many intelligent people could behave so irresponsibly is just sad. The type of person who would kidnap a child doesn't care about the social status of the parent. They just want a child. No one is immune.

Jane Tanner, friend of Gerry and Kate McCann, claims she saw Madeleine McCannâ€™s abductor the night the child went missing. Tanner was apart of the â€˜Tapas Nineâ€™ group the night the 4-year-old disappeared and says she seen Madeleine being carried away by a strange man near the apartments where the McCann family were staying.

Tanner said she saw the man 45 minutes before Madeleine was discovered missing, and when the McCannâ€™s discovered their daughter was gone she â€œendured huge amounts of agony, regret and remorse that she never made the connection.â€

A friend of Madeleine McCann's parents has insisted that the four-year-old was abducted.

Jane Tanner, part of a group of friends who were dining with Kate and Gerry McCann â€“ known as the Tapas Nine â€“ when Madeleine disappeared, said she saw the British child's abductor.

In her first public interview, given to BBC1's Panorama, she says that she saw a man carrying a girl in his arms 45 minutes before she was told Madeleine was missing.

Was the child asleep whom the man carried? If yes, what are the odds that a child would stay fast asleep when removed from its bed by a total stranger who actually had to climb out a window with her?
Also, pictures of the room show that one of the twins' beds was right under the window through which the man allegedly had climbed out.

Maddie would have stayed asleep though if she had been been sedated by her parents.
Where exactly did Jane Tanner spot the man?

I don't understand why, if she "knew" it was Madeleine, she didn't immediately start asking the McCanns why someone was carrying their child away. She says she saw them on the walkway in front of the McCann's apartment. There's just something not right about her story IMO. Actually, there a lot of things that just don't seem right about her story, at least with the way it's being reported.

A new witness in the Madeleine McCann case has told police she saw a woman surreptitiously hand over "a baby in a blanket" to a man two days after the toddler's disappearance.

Private investigators hunting for four-year-old Maddie were contacted last week and the information has been given to the Portuguese police.

The witness claims she saw a woman pass on the child to a man in central Portugal, about 100 miles from the resort of Praia da Luz, where the McCanns were staying.

The man and woman then left in different vehicles and in different directions.

Private detctives who have been hired by the McCanns claim Michaela Walczuch was spotted with the youngster two days after she vanished.

According to reports, a new witness has said she saw the missing four-year-old in a car with Frau Walczuch in central Portugal on May 5.

At almost the end of the Madeleine McCann section on 48 hours, a very confident young Francisco Marco working privately for the McCanns stated they knew who the kidnapper was but couldn't say anything due to the work on hand. Sounds promising.

A journalist who could speak Portuguese was able to talk to the staff at the Tapas Bar, and found out that the balcony of the McCann's was not totally visible due to a large bush directly in front of the balcony, plus the Tapas nine were there for four hours, and the wine flowed.

It does seem the McCanns have been put through the mill by the public, which must be pretty hard to take, with them knowing they haven't killed and hidden their daughter, but their biggest crime is still leaving these three children alone. Unforgiveable!

I believe she spotted him coming away from the area of the McCann apartment, rashomon, which astounds me that this stupid woman didn't go right up to this man and check the child out. It would have taken her just a few seconds to do that. Is it any wonder we haven't heard too much from her.

I would take it that Maddy had to be asleep, or Jane Tanner would have seen her struggling. Where the hell did she think this man was taking this little girl at this time of night? What a stupid stupid woman she is. She needs a good hard slap.

The mother of Robert Murat has dismissed claims that her son was involved in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.

Jenny Murat said he was with her the whole evening of May 3 when the four-year-old went missing. And she also accused three friends of Gerry and Kate McCann of lying.

Russell O'Brien, Rachael Oldfield and Fiona Payne, who were members of the so-called Tapas Nine, reportedly claimed they saw Mr Murat near the apartment on the night of May 3.

But Mrs Murat, speaking publicly for the first time, said her son spent the entire evening with her 'I just don't know why they are lying,' she tells tonight's BBC's Panorama programme, adding: 'On May 3 I'd been out taking the dogs out, which I do every single night of my life. I got home about eight o'clock and Robert was already there and he was in all of the evening.'

Portuguese detectives investigating Madeleine McCannâ€™s disappearance are reported to have carried out fresh searches of the church where her parents prayed for the safe return of their daughter.

Officers carried out a detailed investigation of the church and an old cemetery nearby in a bid to discover whether the four-year-oldâ€™s body could have been hidden there in the days following her disappearance.

They have also re-interviewed the Catholic priest at Church of Nossa Senhora da Luz - Our Lady of the Light - in the Algarve resort of Praia da Luz.

Father Jose Manuel Pacheco, 46, became a friend and confidant of Kate and Gerry McCann in the days and weeks following their daughterâ€™s disappearance.

He gave the McCanns keys to the 16th century church overlooking the sea so they could use it as a sanctuary and pray privately whenever they wanted.

The woman who says she saw Madeleine McCann being carried away by her abductor has said she is haunted by the images of the man she knows she will never be able to identify.

Jane Tanner, a friend of the McCanns who was having dinner with them on the night the three-year-old vanished, said was sure the man she saw carrying a child that night was Madeleine's abductor but that she did not get a clear look at his face.

"I've never pointed the finger at Robert Murat because I simply don't know if it was him or not. I would say the man I saw was more Mediterranean-looking, rather than British."

Mrs Tanner, from Exeter, Devon, and her boyfriend, Russell O'Brien, were among the "Tapas Nine" who left their children each night to have dinner at the Mark Warner resort in Praia da Luz.

She said that at around 9.15pm she had been going to check on her daughters when she saw a man cross in front of her carrying a child in his arms, around 15ft away.

She said she had thought it was odd that the child was not wearing socks or covered by a blanket on a chilly night. She was though, Mrs Tanner remembered later, wearing pink and white pyjamas, the same colour as Madeleine's.

He insisted Michaela Walczuch, 34, was four miles from the family villa with Jehovah's Witnesses.

There have been two alleged sightings of Walczuch with a blonde child shortly after the disappearance.

But her friend said yesterday: "She was at a church meeting in Lagos on the night. She told police this when questioned and they confirmed her story."

The private detectives who are working for the parent of Madeleine McCann are now studying reports that the young girls was spotted at the same place at the same time. The first sighting was back in June when a girl matching the description of Madeleine was spotted with a woman that was thought to be Robert Muratâ€™s girlfriend Michaela Walczuch, who was the official suspect in her disappearance.
According to Sky News Ms Walczuch has strenuously denied any involvement in the disappearance of young Madeleine, and Mr. Murat has always insisted his innocent.

With so many sightings now, it must be getting harder for parents Gerry and Kate. The thing is could Madeleine still be alive after all this time?
