Fullwoods agree to leave children with grandparents

    SARASOTA --

Had the Fullwoods -- whose 6-year-old daughter Coralrose was sexually assaulted and killed in September -- proceeded with the trial that was scheduled for next week, a judge would have made an immediate decision on whether they would get their children back.

"I know I just want to put the rest of my family, that deserves to be back together, back together in the quickest and least painful way," Ellen-Beth Fullwood said.

"Based on the advice of counsel, this is the least painful way."

It could be months before a judge again reviews the case to determine if either parent should regain custody of the children,

"They'll get their kids back, eventually," said Debra Salisbury, attorney for Dale Fullwood. "The kids clearly love both of their parents."

The Department of Children and Families took the children the day after Coralrose was found dead two blocks from the family's home on Sept. 17.

A North Port Police Department detective reported alarming conditions in the home, including fecal matter in a bathtub, cockroaches and piles of laundry strewn about.

Attorneys for DCF have argued that it's not just a dirty house case, saying Coralrose's killing is still unsolved and police have not cleared either parent as a suspect in the death.

Dale Fullwood said the decision to avoid the trial was a relief because of the media attention and the animosity between him and his wife.

"She ditched me and did everything possible to make me look bad and her look like an angel," he said.

The Fullwoods separated after he was arrested in October on two felony counts of possession of child pornography.

The couple of 13 years don't speak, and Ellen-Beth Fullwood has said the only thing stopping her from filing for divorce is the cost of hiring an attorney.

In a recent court appearance where Ellen-Beth Fullwood was granted unsupervised visits with her children, she brought up concerns she had about her husband possibly sexually abusing two of her daughters when they were younger. No such allegations were ever reported to authorities.

In turn, Ellen-Beth Fullwood's parenting came under fire by her husband's attorney, who questioned how many hours she spends reading and writing on the Herald-Tribune's Web site, heraldtribune.com, and whether she yells at her children.

Police: We are not giving up

Coralrose Fullwood's case is still North Port's priority

    * Police are still working leads in the death of Coralrose, and say the case is not cold. Custody of the Fullwood's remaining four children ages 4-13 was granted to their grandparents, Saul and Doreen VanderWoude of Fort Myers. In the last few weeks, FDLE agents have interviewed the children at their school on two separate occasions.

NORTH PORT -- Eight detectives, four from North Port and four from Florida Department of Law Enforcement, are working around the clock on Coralrose Fullwood's murder.

North Port Police Chief Terry Lewis said canvasses are being done, and police are working everything from taking DNA samples and surveillance to reinterviewing family members.

"Everyday, we are still making progress," Lewis said. "We have varsity level investigators working the case."

Six-year-old Coralrose Fullwood was found dead Sept. 17 two blocks from her home on Calabash Lane.

Custody of the Fullwood's remaining four children ages 4-13 was granted to their grandparents, Saul and Doreen VanderWoude of Fort Myers.

In the last few weeks, FDLE agents have interviewed the children at their school on two separate occasions.

According to Doreen, agents spent more than an hour with 9-year-old September Fullwood.

"The first time FDLE called to let us know, as a courtesy. The second time, which was last week sometime, was unannounced," Doreen said.

The interviews took place in a private place in the school, and according to Doreen, someone was in the room with her.

She said the children are still fragile, and will be meeting the court-appointed guardian Friday to discuss future interviews. Doreen wants to make sure the school's grief counselor is present at future interviews.

Lewis said police conducted hundreds of interviews. Thousands of dollars have been spent tracking down the 330 leads called into the police department.

"We've cleared about 80 percent of these leads," Lewis said, adding the case is "no where near cold."

Resources from the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office has also been involved, and Lewis said they are "right there on a moment's notice."

Police have made no arrests in the case, nor have they ruled out any one, including family members.

Thank you for the update RR. With all the work that is being done, I hope they find and arrest the killer of Coralrose soon.

Thank you for posting this RR. It sounds like this home was quite a disaster for the children to live in, doesn't it? As for the father having been arrested for having child pornography. there's no way he should be around any children; especially his own.

It's obvious the mother couldn't have cared less about her children being in a clean home. I don't think the children will be returned to her either, until she proves herself capable of looking after them.

What a real sad state of affairs, with the little six year old girl being found murdered. I wonder what the end result will be?

Burke Ramsey should have been removed from the Ramsey's care too, but it didn't happen. I think the case would have been solved long ago, if LE had forced the issue and separated the parents.(?).

    Just my opinion.

    Tiny update.......

The arrest of Michael King for the murder of Denise Amber Lee in North Port has led to reports in the local press reports stating that law enforcement will run his DNA to see if there is a connection to the Fullwood murder case.

    Default Arrest Made!

    http://www.heraldtribune.com/article...ullwood_murder

"Police have arrested Patrick Dewayne Murphy, 27, and charged him with the rape and murder of 6-year-old Coralrose Fullwood, whose body was found Sept. 17, 2006, in a wooded lot a few blocks from her North Port home.

Despite the arrest, authorities say the investigation is far from over.

“We believe that other people are involved," said Lewis, who explained that by ‘involved,’ he means people who either helped commit the crime, or who knew about it."

"Coralrose’s father, Dale Fullwood, is in the Jackson Correctional Institution after pleading no contest last year to possessing child pornography, a felony. The pornography was found on Dale Fullwood’s computer during the investigation into his daughter's death."

"A year after the murder, police publicly cleared Coralrose's mother, Ellen-Beth, and siblings, though authorities have never said unequivocally that Dale Fullwood is not a suspect in the case."

The parade of sicko, child murdering pervs continues....

Kind of makes you long for the days of execution by drawing and quartering, doesn't it?

"University of Colorado Law Professor Paul Campos declared the letter a 'reckless exoneration.' He went on to state, 'Everyone knows that relative immunity from criminal conviction is something money can buy.
Apparently another thing it can buy is an apology for even being suspected of a crime you probably already would have been convicted of committing if you happened to be poor.'"

    Sure does!
