Friday May 16 Run/Walk Registrations Volunteers from Forums for Justice manned the registration booth at RunTex La Frontera in Round Rock, Texas this afternoon and evening. While the day started off slow by the time we closed up shop registrations had picked up. Of course we won't have a final head count until after the event. I will be posting pictures is today's events as well as of the Run/Walk on this thread over the next few days as I get them processed but meanwhile, here is Aunt Elaine helping a runner in this morning before the FFJ staff arrived. ©Jacqueline L. Run/Walk For Rachel May 17, 2003 The second annual Run/Walk for Rachel was held Saturday 17 May 2003 at 8:00 a.m. Of course the day started much earlier for the volunteers who had to get things set up for the runners. Most of the volunteers were up between 4-4:30 a.m. to load trucks or cars, pick up last minute items like bags of ice, coffee, donuts and so on, then drive to the park, which is about a half hour drive from the Cooke's house. ©Jacqueline L. Banners were hung to announce various organizations who were there not only to support the Run/Walk but to get out important messages about their own organizations. The banners were also great sun blockers! ©Jacqueline L. Riggs 2003
Some organizations had both banners and displays and some simply had displays. This display is for Gabriel's Gifts. ©Jacqueline L. Riggs 2003
Travis County Search and Rescue brought two search dogs along, which were a big hit with the kids. ©Jacqueline L. Riggs 2003
BACA (Bikers Against Child Abuse) volunteered to direct traffic, handle parking issues and they also had a table where they handed out information and sold T-shirts. ©Jacqueline L. Riggs 2003
Jackie Jacobs, the sister of Kent Jacobs who has been missing since March 10, 2002 manned the table for the Kristen Modafferi Foundation. Cookbooks with Rachel's picture on the front were sold by the Kristen Modafferi Foundation and you received a free T-shirt along with the cookbook. The shirt features the pictures of four missing person on it. ©Jacqueline L. Riggs 2003
Once all the tables were set up the runners started arriving and the volunteers needed to register those who had not pre-registered. JJ (Jackie Jacobs) and Aunt Diane are manning the registration table here. ©Jacqueline L. Riggs 2003
Finally, it is time for the race to get started. After a few brief announcements by RC, Rachel's Aunt Shar does a fantastic job of singing our National Anthem. ©Jacqueline L. Riggs 2003
The big moment is finally here. Rachel's sister JoAnn holds the starter's pistol for the second year in a row. ©Jacqueline L. Riggs 2003
